WILLIAMS, DAVID (Iwan; 1796 - 1823), Baptist minister English. He was a frequent contributor to Seren Gomer, 1818-23; he also wrote Llythyr byr oddi wrth Dwrch daear at ei fam, and Serious remarks on the ordinance of baptism. His awdl ' Cerddoriaeth ' was published in Grisiau Cerdd Arwest (Ieuan Ddu). ALLEN, EVAN OWEN (1805 - 1852), writer Born at Pant-y-llin, near Llanrwst, Caernarfonshire, the son of a farmer. He published in Seren Gomer. He also wrote poetry but none of this has been published. He died 18th December 1852 in Ruthin.
HUGHES, HUGH (1790 - 1863), artist and author Seren Gomer, 1828, a scathing attack upon the Calvinistic Methodist authorities and particularly upon John Elias - the articles were re-issued in pamphlet form, Y Trefnyddion a'r Pabyddion. Later (in Seren Gomer, 1830-2), under the pen-name 'Cristion,' he battled with Evan Evans, Ieuan Glan Geirionydd (1795 - 1856) on tithe, churchrate, and Church establishment in general. LEWIS, JOHN HUW (1931 - 2008), printer and publisher much of his time working on maps. Having completed his apprenticeship in the printing industry in London he returned to Llandysul to join the family business, Gwasg Gomer, also known as Gomer Press. The press - founded by his grandfather John David Lewis, in Market Stores, Llandysul, in 1892 - was now being run by J. D. Lewis's two sons: Rhys Lewis (Huw Lewis's father) and Edward Lewis. EVANS, SAMUEL (Gomerydd; 1793 - 1856), editor Born at Llwyn-y-piod, near St Clears. In 1807 he was apprenticed to the printer John Evans, of Carmarthen. On the death of Joseph Harris (Gomer) in 1825 the office of Seren Gomer was removed to Carmarthen and in 1827 Samuel Evans was appointed associate-editor with D. D. THOMAS, DAVID (Dewi Hefin; 1828 - 1909), poet Born at Cnap-sych, Llanwenog, Cardiganshire, 4 June 1828. Educated at Cribyn school, he himself later kept schools at Cribyn, Bwlch-y-fadfa, Mydroilyn, Llanarth, Cwrtnewydd, and Llanwnnen in Cardiganshire. He retired in 1883. STEPHEN, DAVID RHYS (Gwyddonwyson; 1807 - 1852), Baptist minister and author 1852. He married (1), 17 November 1835, Hannah (3 September 1814 - 2 August 1842), fourth child of Joseph Harris (Gomer); (2), 6 December 1843, Mary Wilson, daughter of David Morgan, Swansea. Stephen was a prominent preacher, but is best remembered for his literary and theological works. ELIAS, THOMAS (Bardd Coch; 1792 - 1855), Calvinistic Methodist minister and hymn-writer appeared in Seren Gomer, 1821, 214, and a collection of his hymns, with a memoir, was published at Merthyr Tydfil in 1856.
OWEN, MORRIS BRYNLLWYN (1875 - 1949), minister (B), college professor, church historian Evans in the history of his period, an address full of dry humour but revealing a deep knowledge of the social and economic background. This was printed in the Trafodion of the society for 1938 and was followed by an article in the Trafodion for 1945-47 on Baptists three centuries ago, a close study of the works of Thomas Edwards, author of Gangræna.
