Born 1 June 1877, at Penbont-fach, Tregaron, Cardiganshire, son of John
Rowland
and Margaret, his wife. He was educated at the Technical College, Cardiff, and the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. On leaving college in 1904 he taught at Cardiff, and identified himself with Welsh religious and cultural movements there. He attracted the notice of David Lloyd George and after serving as one

Born c. 1722, son of Thomas
Rowland
of Llanidloes, Montgomeryshire. He was a member of the Llandinam Methodist society in 1744, and is mentioned as being an exhorter at the Tyddyn Association, 1745. He was one of the leading members of Howel Harris's party, and toured Montgomeryshire, Denbighshire, and Anglesey on its behalf. He and Betty, his wife, joined the 'Family' at Trevecka, and his

and about 100 of his neighbours, he sailed from Milford Haven to Pennsylvania. He arrived in Philadelphia in April 1687, and settled at Bryn Mawr, now Lower Merion. (1875-1952), a coalminer, and his wife Sarah (née Walters, 1879-1922). Their second child, Mary Margaret (May) was born in 1909. The family worshipped at Bryn Seion Calvinistic Methodist Chapel. Gwyn was a pupil at the local elementary school before attending the County School for Boys
