GRUFFUDD ap GWRGENAU, poet Nothing remains of his work except (1) an elegiac awdl to prince Gruffudd ap Cynan ab Owain Gwynedd, who died (A.D. 1200) a monk in Aberconway abbey, and (2) a chain of englynion expressing the poet's grief at the loss of some of his friends. The awdl is quite unique among the elegies upon princes, in that it gives second place to the lineage, the exploits, and generosity of the subject. The

GRUFFUDD AP LLYWELYN (d. 1064), king of Gwynedd 1039-1064 and overlord of all the Welsh He was the son of Llywelyn ap Seisyll and Angharad merch Maredudd. Gruffudd was one of the most successful British princes of the Middle Ages and the Book of Llandaff claims that he was 'king of all Wales from end to end'. GRUFFUDD ap MAREDUDD ap DAFYDD (fl. 1352-1382), poet
GRUFFUDD ap NICOLAS (fl. 1415-1460), esquire and a leading figure in the local administration of the principality of South Wales in the middle of the 15th century 1453. Some maintain that it lasted three months at his cost at Dynevor and others state that it lasted a fortnight and that it was held at Carmarthen. It is agreed that Gruffudd ap Nicolas was judge over the poets, and that the chair was awarded to Dafydd ab Edmwnd.
