DAFYDD ap MAREDUDD ab EDNYFED (fl. c. 1460), poet An example of his work remains in manuscript, this being a cywydd written in 1460 on the occasion of the return of Richard, duke of York, from Ireland, his new campaign against Henry VI, and the hasty summoning of Parliament late in the same year. Unfortunately, this same poem is attributed in various other manuscripts to Dafydd Llwyd ap Llywelyn ap Gruffudd and to Llywelyn ab Ednyfed alias
DAFYDD ap MAREDUDD ap TUDUR (fl. 1460) Tregynon, poets His compositions include eulogies of Hywel Colunwy (not of Hywel ap Siencyn), Dafydd Deuddwr, Watcyn ap Tomas ap Rhoser, Dafydd ap Gruffudd Deuddwr (Peniarth MS 64, f.243), and Dafydd ab Owain, abbot of Strata Marcella, and poems of a religious nature. It appears from the contents of 'Tebic ywr byd kyngyd kaeth' that towards the end of his life he became blind.
DAFYDD FYNGLWYD (fl. c. 1500-1550), poet Son of a poet and a native, presumably, of South Wales. Nothing is known of his life, but some of his poetry remains in manuscript. This includes englynion in praise of Gruffudd Dwnn's mansion in Ystrad Merthyr (Llanstephan MS 40 (60)), a cywydd written to Sir Harry ap Sir Thomas Johns of Abermarlais (Llanstephan MS 30 (444)), and another to Sir John Perrot (see the article on the family) of
DAFYDD LLWYD ap DAFYDD ab EINION ap HYWEL (d. before 1469), prominent figure in Cydewain and a generous patron of the 15th century bards Llwyd ap Llewelyn ap Gruffudd suggests that there was much uncertainty about his fate after the battle. The Pryce family of Newtown derived their surname from this Rhys's christian name. His wife was Margaret, daughter of Ieuan ab Owen ap Meredith, of Neuadd-wen.
DAFYDD LLWYD ap LLYWELYN ap GRUFFUDD (c. 1420 - c. 1500) Mathafarn, poet earliest of his poems which can be dated is his elegy to Sir Gruffudd Vaughan (died 1447), and the poet lived to sing the praises of Arthur, son of Henry VII, who was born in 1486 -if we can accept the testimony given in Collections, historical & archaeological relating to Montgomeryshire, xxxi, 195. he was composing as late as 1497. DAFYDD Y COED (fl. 1380), poets Four substantial awdlau by him and smaller poems of a satirical nature have been preserved in the ' Red Book of Hergest.' He sang to Rhydderch ap Ieuan Llwyd of Glyn Aeron (fl. 1386-97), Hopkin ap Thomas of Ynysdawe (fl. 1360-90), and Gruffudd ap Llywelyn from Uwch Aeron. DAVID (d. 1139?), bishop of Bangor After the removal of Hervé there is a gap in the history of this see; no bishop was recognized by Canterbury until 1120. In that year, Gruffudd ap Cynan, now on good terms with the king, wrote to the archbishop, saying that one David had been chosen by himself and the clergy and people of Wales, with the royal assent, and asking that he should be consecrated. DWN, HENRY (before c. 1354 - November 1416), landowner and rebel Henry Dwn of Croesasgwrn, Llangyndeyrn, in Carmarthenshire, was the son of Gruffudd Dwn (also called Gruffudd Gethin) ap Cadwgan and Annes, daughter of Cadwgan ap Ieuan, and a direct descendant of Llywelyn ap Gwrgan, lord of Cydweli. DWNN, OWAIN (c. 1400 - c. 1460), poet Of Modlyscwm (or ' Muddlescombe'), Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire. His grandfather was the Henry Don who was an adherent of Owain Glyn Dŵr (Lloyd, Owen Glendower, 41). The documents of the period 1436-46 make frequent mention of Owain Dwnn. He had a sister Mabli, the first wife of Gruffudd ap Nicholas of Dynevor, and both Owain and Gruffudd were imprisoned as followers of Humphrey, duke of Gloucester
