ROBERTS, SAMUEL (S.R.; 1800 - 1885), Independent minister, editor, Radical reformer Born 6 March 1800, eldest son of John and Mary Roberts (née Breese), of Llanbryn-mair, where his father John Roberts (1767 - 1834) was Independent minister, 1794-1834. He received his early education at the local school kept by his father, and at Shrewsbury, 1810-12. It is claimed that he was one of the earliest in Wales to master shorthand. ROBERTS, THOMAS (1735 - 1804), member of the 'Trevecka Family' Born at Plas-bach, Llansantffraid-glan-Conwy, 31 March 1735, third son of WILLIAM ROBERTS, a freeholder who was converted in 1748 by Peter Williams, knew John Wesley, and adhered to Howel Harris in the Disruption of 1750, so much so that he recalled his son Thomas, who was in service at Bala, from that 'Rowlandist' camp. ROBERTS, THOMAS (1835 - 1899), Calvinistic Methodist minister Born at the Green, near Denbigh, 19 August 1835, son of John and Jane Powel Roberts. For a short time he attended the school kept by Jonah Lloyd, an Independent preacher; after which he went for a year as a farmer's boy to his uncle at Tŷ-draw, near Mold. ROBERTS, THOMAS (1884 - 1960), educationalist and scholar Born 26 December 1884 at Pandy, Llanuwchllyn, Merionethshire, son of John Roberts. He was educated at Llanuwchllyn school, Bala county school and the University College of North Wales, Bangor. He graduated with honours in Welsh in 1907, and took his M.A. degree in 1910. ROBERTS, THOMAS OSBORNE (1879 - 1948), musician services were much in demand as accompanist and adjudicator. He died at Wrexham Hospital, 21 June 1948, and was buried in Ysbyty Ifan churchyard four days later. He had been married twice, his second wife being Leila Megáne (Margaret Hughes).
ROBERTS, WILLIAM (Nefydd; 1813 - 1872), Baptist minister, printer, author, eisteddfodwr, South Wales representative of the British and Foreign Schools Society Born 8 March 1813 in Bryngoleu, in the parish of Llanefydd, Denbighshire, son of Robert Roberts, shoemaker, and Anne his wife (see NLW MS 7000E for the names of some of the ancestors of the parents). ROBERTS, WILLIAM (fl. 1745), poet and writer of interludes Born in the parish of Llannor, Caernarfonshire. He acted as sexton at Llannor and was on very friendly terms with the vicar, John Owen (1698 - 1755). One of his poems, ' I Ofyn Pen Rhaw,' was published in D. ROBERTS, WILLIAM HENRY (1907 - 1982), actor, broadcaster teacher at Newborough school in 1931 where he spent the rest of his life, as teacher and then headmaster of the school. Broadcasting in Welsh began from Bryn Meirion Bangor in 1935 and W. H. Roberts took part in very many feature programmes produced by Sam Jones, Ifan O. ROBERTS, WILLIAM JOHN (Gwilym Cowlyd; 1828 - 1904), poet, printer, bookseller, bibliophile, and eccentric Born at Trefriw, Caernarfonshire in 1828, the son of John Roberts, Tyddyn Gwilym. He was a nephew of Ieuan Glan Geirionydd. He founded the Gorsedd of Geirionydd (1863), in opposition to the established Gorsedd of the Bards, which he denounced as heretical.
