IEUAN DEULWYN (fl. c. 1460), poet
Name: Ieuan Deulwyn
Gender: Male
Occupation: poet
Area of activity: Poetry
Author: Ray Looker
was a native of Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire. Many examples of his work remain in manuscript, most of them being addressed to a large circle of members of landed families, including William, earl of Pembroke, and his brother Sir Richard Herbert (both of whom were killed in the battle of Banbury in 1469), Sir Richard's young son, Dr. John Morgan, bishop of S. Davids, Wiliam Siôn of Llanegwad, Dafydd Llwyd ap Gwilym of Castell Hywel, Llywelyn ap Dafydd ab Einion of Llanllawddog, and his family, Siôn ap Dafydd of Llys Newydd, and John Lewys and his father of Prysaddfed in Anglesey. He composed religious and love poetry, and also one poem of controversy, or ymryson, addressed to Bedo Brwynllys; Ieuan was himself a keen Yorkist, and he accused Bedo of being hypocritical in this matter. An elegy composed by Hywel Rheinallt (or Hywel ap Dafydd ap Ieuan ap Rhys, according to one manuscript - see Mynegai) to Ieuan Deulwyn and three other poets, Dafydd Nanmor, Deio ap Ieuan Du, and Tudur Penllyn remains, and also one composed by Tudur Aled to Dafydd ab Edmwnd, Rhys Nanmor, and Ieuan Deulwyn.
