  • YORKE, PHILIP (1743 - 1804) Erddig, Erthig,, antiquary The eldest son of Simon Yorke (died 1767), grandson of Simon Yorke of Dover, wholesale grocer, and first cousin of lord-chancellor Hardwicke. He was born 29 July 1743, at Erthig, inherited by Simon (1732) from his uncle, John Meller, who had bought the property in 1718 after the bankruptcy of Josua Edisbury.
