(1858 - 1936), educationalist and lawyer
Second son of the 1st lord Aberdare,

Austin Bruce, and Nora, daughter of Sir William Napier. He was born 18 January 1858 at Duffryn, Aberdare. He was educated at Harrow and Balliol College, Oxford, where he graduated (1880) in the Honour School of 'Litterae Humaniores. ' In 1883 he was called to the Bar from Lincoln's Inn and three years later entered upon his long career as an assistant

Oxford, and in 1832 a privy councillor. His wife was Sarah, daughter of Sir

He died 17 March 1847 at Boultibrook, near Presteign, a house whence (in 1923) some Boultibrook manuscripts came to the National Library of Wales (now NLW MSS 4901-12), to be supplemented (in 1943) by a very large group of Harford Jones and Harford Jones Brydges papers which came from

suspected of being Jacobites, a suspicion strengthened by our finding busts of the two Pretenders and of

CADWALADR
(d. 664), prince
. In the prophecies of Merlin, for instance, as handled by Geoffrey of Monmouth, it is foretold that Cadwaladr will summon Cynan and will make a treaty with Alben (Scotland). That Cadwaladr would return to lead the British race to victory over the Saxons became a commonplace of the cywyddau brud, the darkly phrased poems in which the bards shrouded their incitements to national resistance.
