PHILLIPS, DAVID RHYS (1862 - 1952), librarian Born 20 March 1862 at Beili Glas, Pontwalby, Glynneath, Glamorganshire, his grandfather's farm, the son of David and Gwenllian (née Rees) Phillips, but he was brought up at Melincourt, Resolven, in the Neath valley. JONES, DAVID (1736 - 1810), Methodist cleric Born 10 July 1736, at Aberceiliog, Llanllwni, Carmarthenshire, son of Richard and Gwenllian Jones. He was educated at the Carmarthen grammar school. He is probably the 'David Jones of Llanvernach' who was ordained deacon by the bishop of S. Davids in 1758; he is known to have been curate of Tydweiliog, Llyn, in 1758-9, and he officiated at Llanafanfawr, Brecknock, in 1759-60. He was ordained

HUMPHREYS, DAVID (1813 - 1866), minister (CM) carpenter, he made a success of his business. The lands for building the British school and Bethesda chapel at Llanrhaeadr were donated by him. His family had poetic talent and his brother, ' Iorwerth Cynog ', was an excellent poet. Although David Humphreys wrote much verse, only a temperance hymn, ' Babel gwympa ', was published. His father was descended from David ap Llewelyn Lloyd, lord of Castellhywel, Cardiganshire, who was of the lineage of the 'lord' Rhys.
