(1693 - 1767), cleric, historian, and man of letters
Hugh Jones (father of Theophilus Jones), but he held Llanfaes until his death, 11 September 1767. He was buried in Llangamarch churchyard. The hymnist William Williams of Pantycelyn was appointed his curate in 1740 but, as Theophilus Evans refused to recommend him for ordination as priest, he left in 1743. He married 1728,

(d. 1176), one of the conquerors of Ireland
services. It is said that his wife (living in 1171) was

, granddaughter of Roger de Montgomery. Maurice, who was a brave and modest man of few words, died at Wexford c. 1 September 1176. William died 1174.

died 18 February 1818. In 1783 he had published a hymn-book and in 1788 a Welsh translation of Doddridge's Rise of Religion in the Soul. He was twice married. His second wife was Janet Williams of Bwlch Mwlchan - she was a niece of William Griffith (1719 - 1782) of Drws-y-coed, and not (as is stated in the biography of William Griffith of Holyhead) of his wife,
