(1803 - 1880), Calvinistic Methodist minister and hymnist
in the South in 1853. In 1823 he edited and published a monthly magazine, Yr Addysgydd : this contained hymns of his, both original and translated. He was mainly responsible for the editorial work in connection with the collection of hymns published in 1841 for the use of the Calvinistic Methodist connexion, and some of his hymns retain their popularity to this day. Born at Pontypool 4 September 1837, son of Evan Davies, builder, and his wife

Beach. In 1856 he went up to S.John's Training College, Battersea, of which he was to become in 1859 lecturer, and from 1866 to 1894 principal.
