SYPYN CYFEILIOG
(fl. 1340-1390), poet
borne the name of Cneppyn Gwerthrynion, for he is mentioned by Gwilym Ddu o Arfon. Sir Ifor Williams suggests that three poets of short physical stature have been confused, namely Cneppyn Gwerthrynion, Bach Buddugre, and Sypyn Cyfeiliog. Sypyn sang a panegyric cywydd to Henry Salusbury of Lleweni (died 1400) and his wife Agnes Courtois, and also the two cywyddau included in

IEUAN DDU ap DAFYDD ab OWAIN
(fl. c. 1440-1480), poet
Nothing is known about him, and no proof exists for connecting him, as
Iolo
Morganwg does, with Ieuan Ddu, ancestor of the family of Dyffryn, Aberdare. A number of cywyddau are attributed to him in manuscript, but the only certain example of his work appears to be the cywydd to Ieuan Gethin ap Ieuan ap Lleision.
LLYWELYN BRYDYDD HODDNANT
(fl. c. 1300-1350), poet
Iolo
Morganwg connected him with Glamorgan, but the fact is that there are rivers in Radnorshire and Pembrokeshire called Hoddnant, in addition to that near Llantwit Major in Glamorgan. Two examples of his work are preserved in the Hendregadredd MS. and some other MSS., these being two awdlau addressed to Ieuan ap Gruffudd Foel of the Aeron valley in Cardiganshire.
EDERN DAFOD AUR

Many copies of this are extant. The copyists claimed, sometimes, that he was Edern, son of Padarn Beisrudd, that is, that he was the father of Cunedda Wledig. On the other hand, John Davies of Mallwyd said that he flourished c. 1280. EDWARD WILLIAMS (
Iolo
Morganwg) was the first to state categorically that Edern's work was the grammar which is associated with the names of Einion Offeiriad and

reform; it was he who wrote several of the leading articles on this subject published in the new Swansea newspaper, The Cambrian. It is not surprising, therefore, that he became fond of the company of Edward Williams (
Iolo
Morganwg). After the death of
Iolo
in 1826 Waring wrote his reminiscences of him in a series of articles in The Cambrian. In 1850, he published his famous biography, Recollections
MAREDUDD ap RHOSER
(fl. c. 1530), poet
who may have been a native of South Wales. No proof is available for connecting him, as
Iolo
Morganwg did, with Meisgyn (Miskin) in Glamorgan. Examples of his work exist in MSS., including a love poem, an awdl in praise of Ewyas, an elegy to Sir Charles Herbert, another to reconcile William Herbert of Colebrook with William Siôn ap Rhoser of Wern-ddu, and poems in praise of William Evans
ROBERTS, JOHN JOHN

Lloyd) of Pennal, Merioneth, has become famous. A number of other cywyddau are also attributed to him. Some of his poetry is contained in The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales
Iolo
Goch composed an elegy on his death.
SION MOWDDWY
(fl. c. 1575-1613), poet
the bards who attended the eisteddfod at Caerwys, 1567; he may have been too young. There is no foundation for
Iolo
Morganwg's story that he was the son of the 'Red Tinker of Mawddwy,' that he followed his father's trade, and that he married an heiress in Mawddwy.
IORWERTH FYNGLWYD
(fl. c. 1480-1527), bard
cywyddau were among the most popular in Wales in the 16th century, and quotations from them are given in John Davies's collection of notable lines from the works of the bards, in his Flores Poetarum Britannicorum (first published in 1710).

CHRISTINA
, she actively supported her sons Dafydd and Rhodri, in their attack upon their half-brother Hywel in 1170; an unknown poet, playing upon her name, speaks bitterly of her unchristian behaviour. The Welsh form of her name is Cristin; the ' Crisiant ' of the Gwentian Brut (The Myvyrian Archaiology of Wales, ii, 572) is a fancy of
Iolo
Morganwg.
