PAYNE, FRANCIS GEORGE (1900 - 1992), scholar and literary figure sons, Ifan and Ceri. He moved first to Rhiwbina, Cardiff, and then to a flat in St Fagans Castle when the Folk Museum was opened in 1948. During World War II he was seconded to the Art Department of the National Museum where he became familiar with the paintings of Welsh artists such as Hugh Hughes and was the first to draw attention to the work of Thomas Jones, Pencerrig, Radnorshire, in an article
GRIFFITH, SIDNEY (d. 1752), Methodist and associate of Howel Harris Daughter of Cadwaladr Wynne of Voelas, Ysbyty Ifan (see J. E. Griffith, Pedigrees, 326; her christian name came from her grandmother Sidney Thelwall of Plas-y-ward, Ruthin); married William Griffith of Cefn Amwlch, c. 1741 (her son was born in 1742). HOPKINS, BENJAMIN THOMAS (1897 - 1981), farmer and poet Ben T. Hopkins was born on 3 December 1897 at Waunhelyg, Lledrod, Ceredigion, the son of Ifan Hopkins (1851-1931), carpenter, and his wife Mary (née Jones, 1859-1897). His mother died a week after his birth and he was brought up by his mother's sister and brother, Margaretta Jones (1867-1944) and Dafydd Jones (1854-1929), at Triael, Blaenpennal, a smallholding which is now a ruin. EDWARDS, Sir OWEN MORGAN (1858 - 1920), man of letters the University of Wales. He died (still in harness) at Llanuwchllyn, 15 May 1920. His wife, Ellen Davies of Prys Mawr, Llanuwchllyn, had died a year before him. They had two sons, Owen ab Owen (1892-1897) and Ifan ab Owen Edwards (1895-1970), and one daughter, Haf (1898-1965) who married David Hughes Parry.
ROBERTS, LEWIS (1596 - 1640), merchant and writer on economics Penrhyn (see Penrhyn family), and in the Elizabethan age, Sir Edward Herbert, afterwards lord Herbert of Chirbury, had inherited them.
