WYNNE family Voelas, This family, settled in Rhufoniog for several centuries, claimed descent from Marchweithian. There are alabaster effigies of RHYS AP MEREDYDD, also called RHYS FAWR, of Plas Iolyn, standard-bearer in the battle of Bosworth Field, and of his wife Lowry, in Ysbyty Ifan church (Syr Robert ap Rhys, son of Rhys Fawr and Lowry, is also represented by an alabaster effigy in Ysbyty Ifan church; a
CADWALADR CESAIL (fl. 1620), poet he was sheriff in 1609. Some of the englynion were written to Ifan Tew (the younger?) when he sought appointment as magistrate.
POWELL, RICHARD (1769 - 1795), poet and schoolmaster called Difrifol Ystyriaeth, published by John Daniel (Carmarthen, 1789). He was known also as a grammarian. He died in October 1795 while crossing the mountains from Ffestiniog to Ysbyty Ifan.
HUW BODWRDA (fl. 1566) Bodwrda,, gentleman, bard, and patron of bards Two cywyddau by him survive in which he engages in mock controversy with Ieuan (Ifan) Dylyniwr, harpist; he also wrote an englyn urging the bards who came to Bodwrda to write to the 'Worthyes' on the partition in the Tŷ Canol at Bodwrda. It is fairly certain that he kept a family bard and a family harpist at his home. From the elegy upon him, composed by Wiliam Llŷn it would appear that he was

PRYS, THOMAS (1564? - 1634) Plas Iolyn,, poet and adventurer The eldest son of Elis Prys, of Plas Iolyn, Denbighshire. His date of birth is not known, but he was buried at Ysbyty Ifan, 23 August 1634, and according to his poems he had reached old age when he died. He was born at the beginning of the reign of Elizabeth, and he was engaged in the wars and expeditions of her age. He was twice married (1) to Margaret, daughter of William Griffith of Caernarvon
ROBIN DDU (fl. c. 1450), poet elegy on the death of the seven children of Gruffudd ap Rhys ap Maredudd of Gloddaeth, and his poem addressed to the ship that took him on pilgrimage to Rome in 1450. An elegy on his death was composed by Ifan Môn, one of his disciples.
BEVAN, EVAN (1803 - 1866), poet Son of William and Gwenllian Bevan, born at Llangynwyd, Glamorganshire. Coming from a poor family, he was not taught any specific trade and began working as a casual farm labourer. When he was about 22-24 years of age he moved to Ystradfellte, Brecknock, where he married Ann, daughter of Thomas David Ifan, butcher. He moved subsequently to Pont Neath Vaughan, where he died October 1866. Under the
PARRY, ROBERT (fl. 1810-1863), poet Born probably at Llanbryn-mair, son of Robert Parry, curate of that parish, and Mary, his wife, daughter of John Jones of Esgair Ifan. While he was still a small child his father was given the living of Eglwys-bach, Denbighshire (1810-26) and the family went to live in that place (Thomas, A History of the Diocese of St. Asaph, ii, 311). WYNN family Glyn (Glyn Cywarch), Brogyntyn, This family traces its descent from Osbwrn Wyddel, a member of the Geraldine clan. EINION, living 16 October 1380, and fifth in descent from Osbwrn, married Tanglwst, daughter of Rhydderch ap Ieuan Llwyd, of Gogerddan, Cardiganshire. He was succeeded by IFAN (living 6 October 1427), RHYS, and IFAN (living 4 March 1513), who married Laurea, daughter of Richard Bamville, of the Wirral, Cheshire
