THOMAS, CLARA

Clara Thomas was born on 22 August 1841 at Pencerrig Hall, Llanelwedd, Radnorshire, the last of four children of Henry Thomas (1808-1863) of Llwyn Madoc, Llanfihangel Abergwesyn, landowner, solicitor and chairman of the Quarter Sessions, and his wife Clara (née Thomas, 1814-

) of Pencerrig. The family owned extensive lands in the counties of Brecon, Radnor, Cardigan and Glamorgan, and could

His ministry at Stockwell was exceedingly successful; his sermons of Biblical exposition attracted large congregations; he also became the most popular Biblical commentator of his age. , son of Dafydd Thomas ('Trumor '; 1844 - 1916) and his wife Margaret. His father, who was a miner at Gelliceidrim colliery in the Aman Valley, was a poet, a local historian and a regular contributor to Welsh-language newspapers.
