WILIAM EGWAD (fl. c. 1450), poet 13071B, NLW MS 13167B, and in Brogyntyn MS. 2 in N.L.W.
WILIEMS, THOMAS (1545 or 1546 - 1622?) Trefriw, priest, scribe, lexicographer, and physician literature, and a diligent collector and copyist of old manuscripts. Among the manuscripts written by him are: 'Prif Achau Holl Gymru Benbaladr' (N.L.W. Llangibby MSS. 1 and 2), a copy of the Welsh Laws (Peniarth MS 225), and a collection of Welsh proverbs (NLW MS 3064B). But his outstanding achievement was the compilation of a Latin-Welsh dictionary, 'Thesaurus Linguae Latinae et Cambrobrytannicae,' and
WILKINS family '; (2) WILLIAM WILKINS Law, said to have been his fifth son (but this is in conflict with other statements), was deputy-protonotary, 1784-99, and protonotary from 1799 till his death in 1812; (3) ANNE WILKINS, who married John Maybery (died 1784), son of Thomas Maybery, a Worcestershire industrialist, who in 1720 had set up iron-works at Brecon - in 1758 'Maybery and Wilkins' erected a furnace at
WILKINS, CHARLES (Catwg; 1830 - 1913), writer of Merthyr Tydfil Subscription Library for twenty years from its commencement in 1846. Thomas Stephens (Gwyddon) was secretary. He died at his residence, Springfield, Merthyr Tydfil, 2 August 1913. Wilkins wrote prolifically, and mostly for the weekly newspapers of Merthyr Tydfil and Cardiff. WILLIAM, DAVID (1720 - 1794), hymn-writer first publication was Golwg y Ffyddloniaid ar Degwch a Gogoniant Jesu Crist (Carmarthen, 1760). He then published a celebrated series with the title Gorfoledd ym Mhebyll Seion (c. 1760-2, Carmarthen; 1777, Carmarthen; 1778, Brecon; and 1778, Brecon). The various parts were published in a single volume with the same title in 1782 (Brecon), and a third edition with additions in 1786 (Carmarthen). In

Edwards (Cymru Fydd, iv, 41-4; Cymru, ii, 210-3; Beirdd y Bala, 40-8) - for that matter, nearly all our knowledge of him and his works is due to Owen Edwards. WILLIAMS family Gwernyfed, Glasbury (Archæologia Cambrensis, 1870, 308-9) is misleading - e.g. two generations have been mixed up, as is proved by R. W. Banks (Archæologia Cambrensis, 1879, 308-9, or Theophilus Jones, 3rd ed., iii, 91-2). Sir David was succeeded by his son Sir HENRY WILLIAMS, who died 1636. WILLIAMS, Y Fonesig ALICE MATILDA LANGLAND (Alys Mallt, Y Fonesig Mallt Williams; 1867 - 1950), author and celtophile Monnington churchyard. He is described in the inscription on his tombstone as Hollgelt ('a complete Celt'). His widow died at the same house on 2 February 1952. They had two sons and one daughter. WILLIAMS, Sir CHARLES HANBURY (1708 - 1759), satirical writer and diplomatist Born 8 December 1708, the fourth son of Major John Hanbury, of Pontypool. He was educated at Eton. He was god-son to Charles Williams of Caerleon, who had fled abroad after killing his cousin, William Morgan of Penrhos, in a duel, and had amassed a great fortune in Smyrna.
