JONES, Sir CADWALADR BRYNER
(1872 - 1954), a leading figure in Welsh agricultural education and eminent civil servant

, Cefnmaelan, Dolgellau, Merionethshire, and Jane, the daughter of Lewis

, Maesbryner. He was educated at Dolgellau grammar school and Aspatria agricultural college; he received the degree of M.Sc. from Durham University and was a Fellow of the Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland. He was appointed assistant lecturer at U.C.N.W., Bangor in 1893

responsible for twenty issues which were published by Eddowes of Shrewsbury, with the exception of the last, the 1795 issue, which was printed by J. Marsh at Wrexham. There is no record of a later almanac by him. He dabbled in poetry and there is an elegy by him in the almanac for 1783. JOHN CAIN

In the same year he enlisted in the R.A.M.C., serving in Salonika and France as a member of the 86th Field Ambulance

Born 1711 at Cwm-gogerddan, Caeo, Carmarthenshire, son of Daniel John, drover. He too was a drover, and was converted in Troed-rhiw-dalar chapel while returning home after a cattle-drove. He joined the Crug-y-bar Independent church of which he was a prominent member for the rest of his life. He married (1) Ann

built a chapel at Penrhyndeudraeth, at which he again took charge of the singing. Two hymn-tunes composed by him - ' Iago ' and ' Digonolrwydd ' - were published in Caniadau y Cysegr; it is sometimes said that he composed ' Priscilla ' also. In 1769 he was a schoolmaster; it is known that he kept school for a time at Beddgelert. He wrote an elegy (1786) on the death of his first wife, Elizabeth
