. According to Lewis Dwnn, Llywelyn died 1534.
DERFEL, ROBERT JONES
(1824 - 1905), poet and socialist
Son of Edward and Catherine Jones, born 24 July 1824 at Y Foty, his grandfather's farm in the hills between Llandderfel and Bethel, Meirionethshire. His parents moved to Tan-y-ffordd, a cottage near Llandderfel. In due course he left his home to look for work and, after a great deal of wandering, was employed by the firm of J. F. and H.

EAMES, MARION GRIFFITH

Marion Eames was born in Birkenhead, 5 February 1921, the second of three daughters of William

Eames (1885–1959) and his wife Gwladys Mary (née Jones) (1891–1979). Her maternal grandparents had moved to Merseyside from Anglesey and Caernarfonshire, followed as a very young man by her father. Her upbringing was that of a Welsh-speaking family, her parents members of Woodchurch Road chapel

Born in Prestatyn, Flintshire, in 1874, the son of

Eames and his wife Margaret Dowell from Prestatyn. His father was a carpenter who had been apprenticed in Liverpool after working, for a time, on the land in his native Anglesey. He settled in Barrow-in-Furness where he met his future wife as a fellow chorister in the choir conducted by Peter Edwards, 'Pedr Alaw'. Margaret Eames insisted
EDWARDS, CHARLES ALFRED
(1882 - 1960), metallurgist and principal of University College of Swansea
recommending the addition of oxygen to the air blown into iron blast furnaces, a practice which became common about fifty years later. Further research publications led to the award of a D.Sc. in 1913. In 1908 he married Florence Edith

EDWARDS, FANNY WINIFRED

Born 21 February 1876 in Penrhyndeudraeth, Merionethshire, a sister of the poet William Thomas Edwards ('Gwilym Deudraeth '; and the youngest of the 12 children of William Edwards, master mariner, and his wife Jane (née

). She was educated at Penrhyndeudraeth elementary school, becoming a pupil-teacher, afterwards a teacher until her retirement in December 1944 thereby completing over

EDWARDS, HUW THOMAS
(1892 - 1970), trade unionist and politician
fluctuating views. In the autumn of 1964 a Labour government was elected under the leadership of Harold Wilson (whom Huw T believed to have good left-wing qualifications). A Welsh Office was established under James Griffiths who became the first holder of the post of secretary of state for Wales. At the same time some Welsh devolutionists, such as Cledwyn Hughes and Goronwy

EDWARDS, JOHN DAVID
(1805 - 1885), cleric and musician
the surrounding villages, and for many years conducted a choir at Ystrad Meurig, and a band, in which he played the clarinet. He composed several hymn-tunes, which appeared in Y Ceinion (Hafrenydd), Caniadau Seion, Yr Atodiad (Richard Mills), and Haleliwia Drachefn (
Griffith
Harries). The date of his death has not been discovered, but he was alive in April 1886 (April 1887 according to M. O. Jones).
EDWARDS, RICHARD
