HUW ap RHYS WYN (fl. c. 1550), poet Member of the landed family of Mysoglen, Llangeinwen, Anglesey; husband of Catherine, daughter of Lewys ab Owain ap Meurig of Y Frondeg, Llangaffo. Some of his poems survive in manuscripts, and these include a cywydd addressed to Thomas Glyn, Glynllifon, requesting a fishing boat from him, a cywydd to old age, and a more unusual kind of cywydd - an elegy on the death of his favourite hound
HUW PENNANT (fl. c. 1565-1619), poet , Brynkir, Cefnamwlch, Cefnllanfair, Clenennau, Corsygedol, Glynllifon, Llyweni, Madryn, Myfyrian, Mysoglen, Penrhyn, Plas Du in Eifionydd, Plas Newydd in Anglesey, Porthamel, Rhiwedog, Rhiwlas and Ystumcegid. HYWEL ap 'Syr' MATHEW (d. 1581), poet, genealogist, and soldier A native of the Teme valley in Radnorshire. His poetry includes cywyddau written to bishop Richard Davies, William Herbert, earl of Pembroke, Mathew ap Morus of Ceri, Siencyn ap Dafydd of Llanarthney, and an awdl to Lewys Gwyn of Glyn Nedd (Neath) (Llanstephan MS 133 (71, 712), Llanstephan MS 30 (384); Hafod MS. 13 (197); Brogyntyn MS. 2 (529)). We learn from the late 16th century copy of his
HYWEL ap DAFYDD ap IEUAN ap RHYS (fl. c. 1450-1480) Raglan, poet HYWEL DAFI of Raglan, according to Peniarth MS 101 (262), a poet of whose work many examples remain in manuscript. These include a few religious and love poems, and a large number addressed in the standard convention to various members of the ruling families of his period in South Wales, e.g. Gruffudd ap Nicolas of Dynevor, Phylip ap Tomas of Llangoed in Brecknock, Rhys ap Siancyn of Glyn Nedd
HYWEL HEILIN (fl. 15th c.), poet nothing is known of his life. Some of his work is extant in manuscript, including two love poems and a cywydd in praise of Ieuan Llwyd of Glyn Aeron.
IEUAN ap GRUFFUDD LEIAF (fl. latter half of 15th century), poet while journeying to Penrhyn, and a short bardic controversy, or ymryson, composed between Guto'r Glyn and himself. (Gwaith Guto'r Glyn, 17, and Peniarth MS 99 (624)). Poetry written by his father, his son Syr Siôn Leiaf, and also by RHOBERT LEIAF (probably his son or uncle) is also found in manuscript.
IEUAN ap RHYDDERCH ap IEUAN LLWYD (fl. 1430-1470), gentleman and poet Vychan ap Ieuan ap Rhys ap Llawdden,' and (2) ' Mawd, daughter of Sir William Clement, lord of Tregaron.' It is difficult to decide whether there were two men called Rhydderch ap Ieuan Llwyd, or whether the poet's father married a third time. Ieuan is usually connected with two districts in Cardiganshire, but the earliest extant manuscripts link him with Genau'r Glyn rather than with the vale of Aeron
IEUAN ap TUDUR PENLLYN (fl. c. 1480), poet son of the poet Tudur Penllyn of Caer-gai. Much of his work remains in manuscript, and this includes poems written to members of the Abertanad, Mold, Ynys-ymaengwyn, and Gwydir families, another addressed to Dafydd ab Owain, abbot of Strata Marcella, a satire on Flint, and satirical englynion forming part of the bardic controversy, or ymryson, between Guto'r Glyn and Ieuan.
IEUAN DU'R BILWG (fl. c. 1470), poet No details concerning his life are known, but three interesting poems by him remain, these being (1) ' Cywydd y Gown Coch ', (2) a begging ' Llyfr y Greal ' (see Cywyddau'r Ychwanegiad, 144) from the abbot of Glyn Nedd, and (3) a cywydd in which the poet seeks the whereabouts of Llywelyn Goch y Dant from a woman winnowing barley.
IEUAN FYCHAN ap IEUAN ab ADDA (d. c. 1458), poet Chirk (with Nanheudwy), and he also fought in France. He was succeeded at Mostyn c. 1457 or 1458 by his son Howel ap Ieuan, father of Richard ap Howel. Ieuan Fychan was a contemporary of the bards Guto'r Glyn and Maredudd ap Rhys, with the latter of whom he had a bardic controversy. IEUAN GYFANNEDD (fl. 1450-60), poet Details concerning his life are unknown, but one example of his work has been found in NLW MS 728D (113), this being a cywydd in praise of his patrons Phylip ap Rhys of Cenarth in the parish of St. Harmon, Radnorshire, and his wife Gwenllian, daughter of Owain Glyn Dwr.
IEUAN LLAFAR (fl. c. 1594-1610), poet A native apparently of Glyn Ceiriog, Denbighshire. Nothing is known about him, but a number of cywyddau and englynion composed by him, c. 1594 to 1610, have survived. He wrote poems to various contemporary North Wales gentry, including Owain Holant of Plas Berw, Anglesey, Hwmffrai ap Huw of Gwerclys, Rhobert Wyn of Foelas, Edwart ap Dafydd of Rhiwlas, Edwart ap Morus of Llansilin, Owain Bruwtwn
