RICHARDS, GRAFTON MELVILLE

the chair were Emrys (William Ambrose) and Nicander (Morris

). Eben Fardd was for 'chairing' Emrys, while Iocyn Ddu stood out stoutly for Nicander. The third adjudicator, Chwaneg Mon (Joseph Jones), thought that Bardd Du Môn (R. M. Williamson) should get the chair, but was over-persuaded by Richards to cast his final vote for Nicander. The decision provoked a heated controversy in the press

. He died 21 March 1956 at his home, Llys y Delyn, and he was buried in Llanaber church. A memorial bench was placed on the promenade in Barmouth by the Cerdd Dant Society to commemorate his unique contribution, and on it a couplet by W.D.
