, alias Thomas, under which name he matriculated at Gloucester Hall, Oxford, 11 December 1584, at the age of 16. He graduated B.A. from Brasenose College, 15 February 1586/7. He was apparently a native of Radnorshire, but in the entry under the Thomas form of his name Foster (Alumni Oxonienses), quoting the Rawlinson manuscript, says that 'he was beneficed to his

Williams; her second marriage (c. 1817) was with Edward Thomas of Tal-y-bont Uchaf, Llanllechid, an elder at Gatws church (Calvinistic Methodist), near Bangor. Her hymns are found written on the blank pages of an old edition of the Bible, T. Charles's Geiriadur, and an old copy of the Book

Born 28 August 1796 at Trawsafon, Betws-y-coed, the fifth of nine children born to Thomas Thomas, stonemason, and to Elizabeth (Williams), his wife. He was a farmer' boy for a time, but later took to his father's trade. He had been to some small schools, and was a voracious reader; he wrote verse at an early age and was very friendly with Ieuan Glan Geirionydd (Evan

(Gwilym Mai; 1807 - 1872), poet and printer
Son of Ann and Thomas Thomas, miller, Llanelly and Carmarthen. His mother died 10 May 1828 (Seren Gomer, 1828, 188). He worked at Merthyr, Llandovery, and Carmarthen. He was a compositor in the office of David Rice Rees and William Rees at Llandovery, and at Carmarthen he worked in the offices of the Carmarthen Journal with William
Evans
and Benjamin Jones. Afterwards he set up his own business
THOMAS, WILLIAM

hymns. In 1860 he prepared another book, but he had died before it was published in 1862 under the title Ehediad y Meddwl (Caernarvon), a volume of poems, hymns, and elegies with a short biography of the author by the Rev. W. H.

. One of his hymns is included in the editions of the Wesleyan hymn book, published during the 19th century and early 20th century. He died 8 September 1861.
