RHYS ab OWAIN ab EDWIN (d. 1078), king of Deheubarth Great-grandson of Einion ab Owain ap Hywel Dda, and the last representative in the senior line of descent from Hywel. Having succeeded his brother, Maredudd, in 1072, he was involved in the death of Bleddyn ap Cynfyn in 1075, and in 1078 he was himself defeated at Goodwick by Trahaearn ap Caradog. Later in the year he met his end at the hands of Caradog ap Gruffydd, and was succeeded by his
RHYS ap TEWDWR (d. 1093) Grandson of Cadell ab Einion ab Owain ap Hywel Dda. In 1075 he took possession of Deheubarth on the death of his second-cousin, Rhys ab Owain ab Edwin. In 1081 he was dislodged by Caradog ap Gruffydd, but later in the year, with the help of Gruffudd ap Cynan, he was firmly reinstated after the historic battle of Mynydd Carn. RHYS BRYCHAN (fl. c. 1500), poet Twenty-seven of his poems are preserved in manuscript. Among them are an awdl and an elegy to Rosser Fychan of Talgarth, a laudatory poem to Lewis ap Risiart Gwyn of Fan, and poems to Einion Fychan of Tywyn, Watkin Fychan of Treffylip, Sir Morgan ap Sir Siôn Farchog of Tredeigr, William Herbert, and others. RHYS GOCH ERYRI (fl. early 15th century), poet Perhaps he was 'un o'r rhai gorau ieuainc' ('one of the best of the young ones') mentioned in 'Cywydd y Cwest' by Gruffudd Llwyd (1385?). The reading there is not quite certain, but one can rely on Rhys Goch Eryri's own elegy to Gruffudd Llwyd ap Dafydd ab Einion where he refers to the latter as 'athro' ('teacher') and says that he was almost of the same age as himself. RHYS GOCH GLYNDYFRDWY (fl. c. 1460), poet Dafydd ab Einion sending the sun to address Glamorgan. The turmoil of his age is reflected in a cywydd which he sang to the sons of Ieuan Fychan ab Ieuan ab Adda when they were imprisoned by Richard Trevor. He also wrote petition-poems and love poems.
RHYS GOGH ap RHICCERT The only reliable information about him which we have is contained in pedigrees (e.g. Peniarth MS 178) from which we learn that he was a grandson of Einion ap Collwyn who lived in Glamorgan at the time of the Norman Conquest, and that he was an ancestor of Rhys Brydydd of Llanharan and other well-known poets of the same line, such as Lewys Morgannwg. RHYS PENNARDD (fl. c. 1480), a poet it is said that he lived either at Conway or at Clynnog, Caernarfonshire, and that he was buried at Llandrillo, Meironnydd. A number of his poems remain in manuscript, including cywyddau addressed to Elisau ap Gruffudd ab Einion of Plas yn Iâl, Gruffudd Fychan ap Hywel ap Madog, and Rhys ap Hywel ap Madog of Talhenbont, Hywel Ddu of Anglesey and his wife Mallt, and also to William, constable of
RICHARDS, WILLIAM LESLIE (1916 - 1989), Scholar, teacher, poet and author H. Meurig Evans and W. J. Harries, of four volumes of Cymraeg Heddiw. The periodical Barn came into being in 1962, and he was the first editor of its education section. He was a regular contributor to national periodicals, such as Y Llenor, Llên Cymru, Taliesin, Y Traethodydd, Y Genhinen, Yr Efrydydd, Yr Einion and Blodau'r Ffair. He was a prominent adjudicator at eisteddfodau, including the
SEIRIOL (fl. c. 500- c. 550), founder and first abbot of Penmon church son of Owain Danwyn ab Einion Yrth ap Cunedda Wledig, and so a second cousin of king Maelgwn Gwynedd and of the same age as the latter. According to Anglesey tradition, he was a great friend of Saint Cybi. Seiriol was the chief saint of the Dindaethwy district in Anglesey and also of Penmaenmawr, Caernarfonshire; his feast day, according to the earliest calendars, was 1 February

THOMAS TEIFI (fl. 16th century), poet
THOMAS, THOMAS (1804 - 1877), cleric Born 7 September 1804, son of John Thomas of Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn, Cardiganshire. He was educated at Ystrad Meurig and matriculated in the University of Oxford from Jesus College, 29 March 1824. He took his B.A. in 1827, and after a year's teaching in Liverpool was ordained deacon by bishop Luxmoore of S. Asaph, 20 July 1828, and licensed to Llanfair Caer Einion. He received priest ' orders
