JONES, JOHN WILLIAM
(1883 - 1954), author, collector of letters and papers, publisher, antiquary and folk poet
reading. He was generally known as 'Joni Bardd' in his neighbourhood and he fulfilled the function of folk poet conscientiously. He had a burning interest in Welsh and English poetry, and particularly in collecting and publishing the work of some of the poets of his own and neighbouring areas. Born 16 September 1851, son of the Rev. John Jones, Pen-y-bryn, Wrexham, Denbighshire, and great-grandson of Robert Jones, Rhoslan. He was a cousin of '

Maethlu ' [ John Maethlu Jones, 1839 - 1866 ]. He was educated at Manchester Grammar School, and entered Corpus Christi, Oxford, in 1870, where he graduated B.A. with first class in Mathematics in 1874. He was called to the bar at Lincoln's
