RHYS, WALTER FITZURYAN (1873 - 1956), nobleman and politician concerned with heavy industry as a director of Richard Thomas and Baldwin's tinplate works on the estate at Jersey Marine. 1931-35 he was Member of Parliament (C) for Guildford. RICHARD, EBENEZER (1781 - 1837), Calvinistic Methodist minister Born 5 December 1781 at Tre-fin, Pembrokeshire, son of HENRY RICHARD (1730 - 1813) and Hannah, his second wife. The father had been a circulating schoolmaster and a Methodist preacher for sixty years. RICHARD(S), JOHN (1720 - 1764), Calvinistic Methodist exhorter, and poet Born in 1720 at Bryniog Uchaf, Llanrwst, came under the influence of Methodism c. 1740, began to exhort c. 1749, and died in 1764. For his work, see Y Traethodydd, 1886 (278) and 1887 (122), and Owen Williams, Llyfryddiaeth Sir Ddinbych, 146; but the hymns attributed to him in Llyfryddiaeth y Cymry, 411, and in Owen Williams's list (above) are not his; they belong to John Richard(s) of Llansamlet
RICHARD, JOHN (fl. 1743-1784), Calvinistic Methodist exhorter, and hymn-writer . The entry relating to his burial is to be found in the Llansamlet register, 26 December 1784. In 1747 he published two small books, Hymn Fuddjol ac Angenredjol and Hymnau Byddiol, etc.. both of which were printed at Carmarthen. The hymns, which at one time were attributed to John Richard of Bryniog Uchaf, are of no particular value. There are several of his letters among the Trevecka manuscripts.

RICHARD, THOMAS (1783 - 1856), Calvinistic Methodist minister Born 11 February 1783 at Tre-fin, Pembrokeshire, son of Henry and Hannah Richard. Ebenezer Richard was his brother. His religious convictions grew upon him while he was still young, and he joined the society at Tre-fin.
