JONES, HUGH WILLIAM (1802 - 1873), Baptist minister and editor the political life of Carmarthenshire. At the end of 1837 he purchased the periodical Seren Gomer, and was its publisher till the end of 1850, when it was sold to a company of Baptist ministers; he also collaborated with the former editor, Samuel Evans (1793 - 1856), in editing it. He wrote much himself in the periodical, and in particular defended the views of his former neighbour at Tredegar, John
JONES, JOHN (Mathetes; 1821 - 1878), Baptist minister and littérateur captured several prizes for eisteddfodic essays, including an essay at Llangollen in 1858 on the mineral resources of North Wales, and contributed much to the periodical press, especially to Seren Gomer. JONES, JOHN HENRY (1909 - 1985), educationist and translator tender expressions of his longing for his wife and for Wales (some were republished in Cardi o Fôn, 1991). JONES, JOHN TYWI (1870 - 1948), Baptist minister and journalist wrote a number of plays, some of which deal with the language and Welshness, e.g. Dic Sion Dafydd (1913), and stories for children and adults, together with some theological works, e.g. Y Bedydd Ysgrythurol (1900). JONES, NANSI RICHARDS (Telynores Maldwyn; 1888 - 1979), harpist published by Gomer Press in 1972. Also in 1972 the second recording of Nansi's performances was made by Decca 'Celfyddyd Telynores Maldwyn' (The Artistry of Telynores Maldwyn). This was released in 1973 and apart from 3 pieces, was exclusively played on the triple harp. Nansi returned to New York in September of 1973 to perform. JONES, PETER (Pedr Fardd; 1775 - 1845), poet and hymnist entitled ' Manteision ac Anfanteision Ystad Priodas.' He was a contributor to periodicals such as Seren Gomer and Goleuad Gwynedd. He died at Liverpool, 26 January 1845, and was buried in the churchyard of S. Paul's there; David James (1803 - 1871) officiated at the funeral. In J. H. JONES, RICHARD (1787 - 1855?), printer and publisher Tydfil in 1829. In the meantime, as already stated, the Dolgelley press continued to function, being named ' Gomerian Press,' ' Gomer-Wasg,' or ' Y Wasg Omeraidd.' JONES, SARAH RHIANNON DAVIES (1921 - 2014), author and lecturer ', Gomer, 1973). She recalls being advised by Professor Thomas Parry to choose between poetry and prose, and not to mix the two. She appears to have taken the advice, going on to become one of the foremost Welsh novelists of her time. JONES, THOMAS LLOYD (Gwenffrwd; 1810 - 1834), poet August 1834. It was from Philadelphia that he sent the poem ' Syniadau ar y Môr ' which was published in Seren Gomer, August 1833. He sent a poem (which did not win a prize) in memory of his patron Archdeacon Beynon to the Gwent and Dyfed royal eisteddfod at Cardiff 1834, but he died four days before the eisteddfod opened.
JONES, TOM ELLIS (1900 - 1975), Baptist minister and college Principal ) and in several numbers of Seren Gomer and Trafodion Cymdeithas Hanes Bedyddwyr Cymru. In the 1960s he chaired a commission on the Ministry set up by the Baptist Union of Wales and was largely responsible for the report it published, Adroddiad Comisiwn y Weinidogaeth.
