MORGAN ap HUW LEWYS (fl. c. 1550-1600), poet
MORGAN ap HYWEL (fl. 1210-1248), Welsh lord of Gwynllwg or Caerleon men who held castles in Glamorgan and Gwent in the king's name. It was c. 1210 that Hywel was succeeded by his son Morgan, whose name heads this note. As will be seen in the article on the Marshals, Morgan was involved in their fortunes; he lost Caerleon castle to William Marshal in 1217, and William's sons refused to restore it to him (though he generally kept his hold upon Machen castle) - indeed

MORGAN GAM (d. 1241), lord of the Welsh barony of Avan Wallia (or Nedd-Afan) in the honour of Glamorgan son of Morgan ap Caradog ap Iestyn, probably by Gwenllian, daughter of Ifor Bach. He succeeded his elder brother, Lleision, c. 1213, and, reverting to his father's policy of alliance with the Welsh princes, well served the interests of Llywelyn ap Iorwerth by harassing the Clare lords of Glamorgan. MORGAN, CLIFFORD (Cliff) ISAAC (1930 - 2013), rugby player, sports writer and broadcaster, media executive on the British Army of the Rhine's rugby cup final. He suffered a stroke in Cologne on the night after the match resulting in him being confined to a wheelchair for three months, suffering slurred speech and temporary paralysis to the left side of his body. MORGAN, DEWI (Dewi Teifi; 1877 - 1971), poet and journalist encouraging and guiding young poets and prose writers as an adjudicator in local and national eisteddfodau and editor of the poetry column of Y Faner. Among those indebted to him include D. Gwenallt Jones, T. Ifor Rees, Caradog Prichard, T. Glynne Davies, J. M. Edwards, Iorwerth C. Peate and Alun Llywelyn-Williams. MORGAN, ELENA PUW (1900 - 1973), novelist, author of fiction and short stories for children many literary friends, including the English novelist John Cowper Powys, who had settled nearby, and the Welsh writers Iorwerth C. Peate, Moelona, E. Tegla Davies and Kate Roberts. MORGAN, JOHN RHYS (Lleurwg; 1822 - 1900), Baptist minister, lecturer, poet, and littérateur contributions to John Jones (Mathetes), Geiriadur Beiblaidd, 1864-83. He married (1), c. 1846, Maria Jones, S. Mellons, who died at Caerphilly 11 November 1847, aged 28, as the result of an accident at Bangor; and (2), Martha Roberts, daughter of David Roberts, Aberavan, 26 December 1849, at Neath. MORGAN, REES (1764 - 1847), Calvinistic Methodist preacher Born at Capel-hir, Talley, Carmarthenshire, son of Morgan Rees who was a member of the Methodist society at Glanyrafon-ddu Ganol. His spiritual regeneration took place under the ministry of William Lloyd of Caeo (1741 - 1808) who, thereafter, was his firm friend.
