Rowlands (Llyfryddiaeth, see under 1729) connects him, in error, with Maenor Owen, Pembrokeshire, and describes him as a great-grandfather of Richard Fenton, the Pembrokeshire historian. It is unlikely that he is the John Lewis who entered Lincoln's Inn, 28 February 1562-3

Born at Llanidloes. A weaver by trade, he was induced to enter the ministry. After a few years' residence in Anglesey in the double capacity of schoolmaster and pastor, he held pastorates at Bangor and Holywell. Resigning from the ministry, he then went to Liverpool as sub-editor of Yr Amserau. Amongst his contributions to this paper were two tales - '
