EVANS, ARISE (fl. 1607-1660), prognosticator extravagances, but there are passing references of great interest, notably to John Jones (1597? - 1660) the regicide's acquaintance with the lake of Tal-y-llyn, to Christopher Love speaking to him in Welsh, to the Welsh connections of Oliver Cromwell, to the heresies of William Lilly the astrologer. His works contain barbarous spellings of Welsh place-names, but possibly that was the fault of the printers
EVANS, ARTHUR (1755 - 1837), Calvinistic Methodist minister Born at Felindre, Penboyr, Carmarthenshire, 2 September 1755, son of Thomas Evans. Left an orphan, he was brought up as a weaver by an uncle. In 1773 he joined the C.M. society then held at Gwern-yr-hafod and later at Conwil. Intending to take orders, he went to Carmarthen Academy, but failed to obtain orders. In 1782 he began preaching, and about the same time married (he had four children
EVANS, BENJAMIN (Telynfab; 1844 - 1900), Baptist minister and author Born at Dowlais 2 May 1844. He went to Haverfordwest Baptist College in 1868, and was minister at S. Davids from 1871 till 1876. In 1876 he removed to Gadlys, Aberdare, and remained there till his death, 23 August 1900. His best-known work is his biography, 1891, of Thomas Price (1820 - 1888) of Aberdare.
EVANS, BERIAH GWYNFE (1848 - 1927), journalist and dramatist , also undertaking general journalistic work. EVANS, DANIEL SILVAN (1818 - 1903), cleric, translator, editor, and lexicographer Born at Fron Wilym Uchaf, LlanarthLlanarth, Cardiganshire, 11 January 1818, son of Silvanus and Sarah Evans. From 1838 to 1840 he was at Thomas Phillips's school at Neuadd-lwyd, where he began to preach among the Independents. EVANS, DANIEL SIMON (1921 - 1998), Welsh scholar places in the denominational scriptural examinations, a lay preacher and poet, 'thirsting after knowledge' according to his admiring son.
