LEVI, THOMAS ARTHUR
(1874 - 1954), professor of law

August 1798, third son of Richard Lewellin of Tremains, Coity, near Bridgend, Glamorganshire, and his wife Maria, daughter of David Jones of Llan-gan (1736 - 1810). He was educated at Cowbridge grammar school and Jesus College, Oxford, graduating B.A. 1822, M.A. 1824, B.C.L. 1827, and D.C.L. 1829. He was ordained deacon in 1822 and priest in 1823 by the bishop of Oxford, and in 1826 was

the Lancastrians. He was certainly high in the favour of Henry VII, for the Calendar of Patent Rolls records a grant to him for life of forty marks out of the revenues of Wiltshire,

Monmouthshire; subsequently (1571-2), he was principal of Jesus College. From 1558 he was judge of the High Court of the Admiralty, and was active in connection with the various maritime cases that arose during Elizabeth I's reign.
