EINION ap GWALCHMAI (fl. 1203-1223), poet and producing half the wedding ring which he had kept. There is another tale of his being cured by ' Friar Gwryd ' of a seven years' affliction. In an englyn in which part of the second tale is told, Einion is definitely described as the son of Gwalchmai ap Meilyr, and this is probably correct.

EINION OFFEIRIAD (fl. c. 1320), the person whose name is associated with the earliest Welsh grammar or metrical grammar which we possess ynrrydedd a moliant') of the same Rhys ap Gruffydd. He is not referred to in the earliest manuscripts of the grammar except as one who fashioned three metres. Apart from this we know nothing of him. Iolo Morganwg tried to show that he was grandfather of Hopcyn ap Tomas ab Einion of Ynystawe, but there is no foundation for this statement.
EINION WAN (fl. 1230-1245), poet
ELLIS family Bron y Foel, Ystumllyn, Ynyscynhaearn Evans family of Tan-y-bwlch, Maentwrog; Ieuan, brother of Sir Hywel y Fwyall, was ancestor of the Madryn family. HYWEL AP MEREDYDD, of Bron y Foel, whose wife was Gwenllian, daughter of Gruffydd ap Ednyfed Fychan, had a son, GRUFFYDD AP HYWEL, who, by his wife Angharad, was the father of EINION AP GRUFFYDD, sheriff of Caernarvonshire 1354-6, and Sir Hywel y Fwyall. Einion ap Gruffydd was succeeded by
ELSTAN (or ELYSTAN) GLODRYDD, founder of the fifth of the 'royal tribes' of Wales , Idnerth, also had three sons; of these, Madog (died 1140) had five sons. Two of Madog's sons, Hywel and Cadwgan, were killed in 1142, and a third, Maredudd, in 1146; the other two, CADWALLON (died 1179) and EINION CLUD (died 1177), ruled respectively over Maelienydd and Elfael. They were not on good terms, and in 1160 Cadwallon seized Einion and handed him over to Owain Gwynedd, who surrendered him to

The wife of his son, EVAN AP ROBERT, was Gwen, daughter of Humphrey ap Maredudd ab Evan ap Robert, Cesail-gyfarch, Caernarfonshire, and it was their son, ROBERT AB EVAN, who first stabilized the surname and became known as ROBERT EVANS. EVANS, EVAN WILLIAM (1860 - 1925), editor and publisher Born 7 October 1860 at Cae Einion, Dolgelley, son of David Evans and Jane (Roberts). He was educated at Dolgelley grammar school and then went to serve in the Herald office at Caernarvon. He returned a little later to Dolgelley, and having acquired the printing office where Y Goleuad was printed (the place of printing having been changed from Caernarvon to Dolgelley), he arranged with the Goleuad
