JONES, JOHN (Tegid, Ioan Tegid; 1792 - 1852), cleric and man of letters ed. in 1842 and was praised by eminent Hebraists on the Continent. Welsh studies, however, filled a more important place in his interests. In his youth at Bala, he had taken his place in the bardic succession of the region, receiving his instruction at the hands of Robert William, whom he commemorated in an elegy, and in his turn becoming the instructor of Charles Saunderson. JONES, JOHN WILLIAM (1883 - 1954), author, collector of letters and papers, publisher, antiquary and folk poet others. He also ensured that the poets, authors and musicians of the locality were commemorated in a worthy manner. He arranged the erection of a gravestone for Robert Owen Hughes ('Elfyn'), and a memorial stone (a stone from Cwm Pennant) to 'Eifion Wyn.' With another friend and T. JONES, JOSEPH (1799 - 1871), Catholic priest , 2 December 1871 and was buried at Pant Asaph. An obituary was printed in The Tablet, 23 December 1871. In his will (under the name of James Jones) there is reference to brothers William and Robert and sisters Mary and Sarah. He left money to the Catholic orphanage at (? Holywell) and to the Catholic Clergy Fund, diocese of Shrewsbury.
