DAFYDD ap SIANCYN (SIENCYN) ap DAFYDD ap y CRACH (fl. mid 15th century), Lancastrian partisan and poet The history of the Gwydir family: from his eyrie on Carreg-y-gwalch (near Llanrwst) he kept the Yorkists out of the commote of Nanconwy till 1468, and raided the surrounding country. Ieuan ap Gruffydd Leiaf and Tudur Penllyn sang his praises. Though Tudur, in his cywydd to him, extols his poetic skill, only three englynion of Dafydd's are extant. One of these is addressed to Tudur Penllyn. The other
DAFYDD BAENTIWR (fl. c. 1500-1530?), a poet His only extant work is his bardic controversy (ymryson) with Gruffydd ap Ieuan ap Rhys Llwyd. It contains a poem addressed to Gruffydd by Dafydd, a poem in reply by Gruffydd, and another by Dafydd. This controversy is to be found in the following manuscripts - Cardiff 7, Mostyn 143, NLW MS 5269B, Peniarth MS 112 Peniarth MS 152; and parts of it in NLW MS 728D and Peniarth MS 78.
DAFYDD LLWYD ap DAFYDD ab EINION ap HYWEL (d. before 1469), prominent figure in Cydewain and a generous patron of the 15th century bards Llwyd ap Llewelyn ap Gruffudd suggests that there was much uncertainty about his fate after the battle. The Pryce family of Newtown derived their surname from this Rhys's christian name. His wife was Margaret, daughter of Ieuan ab Owen ap Meredith, of Neuadd-wen.
DAFYDD LLWYD ap LLYWELYN ap GRUFFUDD (c. 1420 - c. 1500) Mathafarn, poet sons were named Ieuan, Meredudd, and Llywelyn, mention being also made of a daughter named after her mother (Powys Fadog, vi, 37), and possibly of other sons. Besides the vaticinatory poems, there remain poems of controversy between him and Llywelyn ap Gutun and others. DAFYDD NANCONWY (fl. 17th century), writer of cywyddau He is said to have been the son of Tomas Dafydd ap Ieuan ap Rhys ap Gronnw ap Meyrick ap Llewelyn ap Richard ap Dafydd of Pwll-y-crochan in ' Llechwedd Isaf ' (i.e. Arllechwedd Isaf), Caernarfonshire His father also was a poet, and he is known to have written a cywydd in 1654. DAFYDD NANMOR (fl. 15th century), poet . Besides the masterly praise bestowed by him in cywydd and awdl on Rhys o'r - Tywyn, and also on his sons, Dafydd Nanmor was the faithful eulogist of Edmund and Jasper Tudor; he also composed a cywydd and an awdl to Henry Tudor when the latter was but a child. DAFYDD TREFOR Syr (d. 1528?), cleric and bard dictus dominus david ap hoell ap Ieuan ap Iorwerth Rector ecclesie pariochialis de llanallgo in comitatu anglesega' (N.L.W. Carreglwyd document 1824). An elegy on him by Ieuan ap Madoc seems to suggest that he died in 1527 or early in 1528 - Ieuan ap Madoc refers in his elegy to the death of two other contemporary bards, Tudur Aled (died 1526) and Lewis Môn (died 1527). He sang to Rhydderch ap Ieuan Llwyd of Glyn Aeron (fl. 1386-97), Hopkin ap Thomas of Ynysdawe (fl. 1360-90), and Gruffudd ap Llywelyn from Uwch Aeron.
