Born 19 December 1805 in Penderlwyngoch, Gwnnws, Cardiganshire, son of John Edwards. He was educated at Ystrad Meurig school and Jesus College, Oxford (B.A. 1830, proceeding M.A. later). Ordained deacon in 1832 and priested in 1833, he served as curate at Llansantffraid Glyndyfrdwy, Denbighshire, and Aberdovey, before he was given by
