FOULKES, ISAAC (Llyfrbryf; 1836 - 1904), newspaper proprietor and publisher issued from his press were Dafydd ap Gwilym, 1873, Y Mabinogion Cymreig, 1880, Iolo Manuscripts, 2nd ed., 1888, Philip Yorke, The Royal Tribes of Wales, 1887, and John Fisher, The Cefn Coch MSS., 1899. He published some outstanding biographies, including those of Thomas Charles Edwards, John Hughes (1827-1893), Daniel Owen the novelist, John Ceiriog Hughes (Ceiriog), and the poems and letters of
GRIFFITH family PENRHYN, (117, 293, 329), 1467-77 (54, 490), 1476-85 (121)). He was dead by 13 September 1483 (Penrhyn MSS. 38-9). GRIFFITH family Cefn Amwlch, Penllech, Llŷn This family claimed descent from Rhys ap Tewdwr Mawr, prince of Deheubarth, through Trahaearn Goch, lord of Cymydmaen. Associations with Penllech can be traced back to the early years of the 14th century, but the first of the family to be definitely described as of Cefn Amwlch is one Dafydd Fychan who was alive in 1481. GRUFFUDD ab ADDA ap DAFYDD (fl. 1340-1370), poet and prose writer He was a contemporary and friend of Dafydd ap Gwilym, who composed a marwnad upon him. From this poem we gather that he was a native of Powys Wenwynwyn and was killed by a friend's sword at Dolgelley, where he lies buried. GRUFFUDD ap DAFYDD FYCHAN (fl. 15th century), poet Of Tir Iarll in Glamorganshire He is apparently the person referred to as 'Gruffudd mydrydd a enwir gŵr o Fetws Tir Iarll' whose pedigree is given by G. T. Clark in Limbus Patrum, 510. GRUFFUDD ap MAREDUDD ap DAFYDD (fl. 1352-1382), poet
GRUFFUDD ap NICOLAS (fl. 1415-1460), esquire and a leading figure in the local administration of the principality of South Wales in the middle of the 15th century 1453. Some maintain that it lasted three months at his cost at Dynevor and others state that it lasted a fortnight and that it was held at Carmarthen. It is agreed that Gruffudd ap Nicolas was judge over the poets, and that the chair was awarded to Dafydd ab Edmwnd.
