He was educated at Caterham School and served in the Denbighshire Yeomanry, 1913-14, and in France with the 10th South Wales Borderers and Royal Flying Corps., 1915-17, becoming an honorary captain in the Royal Air Force. Hawarden (12 December 1646) was nullified by the conveyance made by the 8th earl, after his father's execution, to John Glynne, and the post-Restoration judical verdict that Hope was inalienable. He took no part in the Restoration, but was granted a royal pardon on 24 July 1660. He lived mainly in London, allowing the deprived Puritan minister of Denbigh, William
