RICHARDS, THOMAS (1878 - 1962), librarian and historian of North Wales, Bangor (1899-1903) where he graduated with honours in history under the well-known historian Sir John Edward Lloyd. He was appointed a school-teacher at Towyn (1903-05), Bootle (1905-11), and Maesteg (1912-26). Thomas Shankland urged him to research the history of Puritanism in Wales in Lambeth Palace Library, the British Museum, the Public Record Office, and the Bodleian Library
RICHARDS, WILLIAM (1749 - 1818), General Baptist minister, theological and political controversialist, and antiquary . Before and after the West Wales Baptist schism of 1799, Richards rushed into the fray, against Calvinism and against the 'Methodistical' and revivalistic tendencies of the Particular Baptist leaders. He poured forth a series of 'Occasional Leaflets' (Papurynnau Achlysurol); these are now very scarce. RICHARDS, WILLIAM LESLIE (1916 - 1989), Scholar, teacher, poet and author until his retirement in 1981. He published three novels, Yr Etifeddion (1956), Llanw a Thrai (1958) and Cynffon o Wellt (1960), and five volumes of poetry, Telyn Teilo (1957), Bro a Bryniau (1963), Dail yr Hydre (1968), Adledd (1973) and Cerddi'r Cyfnos (1986). RICHARDSON, EVAN (1759 - 1824), Calvinistic Methodist minister, and schoolmaster John Elias and Sir Hugh Owen, Richardson gave up the school when in 1817 his health began to fail, and was succeeded by William Lloyd (1771 - 1841). ROBERT, GRUFFYDD (c. 1527 - 1598), priest, grammarian and poet Gruffydd Robert was a native of Caernarfonshire. The date of his birth is not known, but documents preserved in Milan show him to have been born circa 1527 to one Robert and to domina Catherina de Griffis: Catrin ferch Gruffudd, a woman of gentry stock. ROBERTS, ARTHUR RHYS (1872 - 1920), solicitor Highland Railway). Part of Lloyd George, Roberts and Company's expertise was in the field of the contemporary mass media, namely the daily press. They became solicitors to the owners of the Daily News newspaper, which was under the control of the Quaker industrialist Joseph Cadbury.
