WILLIAMS, Sir GLANMOR
(1920 - 2005), historian
College of Swansea, where he remained until retirement in 1982. His colleague Glyn Roberts went to
Bangor
as University registrar, and this enabled him to be appointed to a permanent post in Welsh history at Swansea. He married Fay Davies on 6 April 1946, and they settled near the university in Swansea and had two children, Margaret born in 1952 and Huw born in 1953. His MA on Richard Davies was
WILLIAMS, GRIFFITH
(1587? - 1673), bishop and author
Richard Bulkeley in 1621, taking as his text Psalm cxiv, 5. In July 1644 he preached at the funeral of Katherine, daughter of William Lewis of Llandygài, when archbishop John Williams and the bishop of
Bangor
were present, and he is mentioned as one of the mourners at the burial of archbishop John Williams at Llandygài in 1650. He was appointed rector of Trefdraeth in 1626 and dean of
Bangor
in 1634. In

Born 16 December 1854, at Hên Dŷ Capel, Rhiwbryfdir, Blaenau Ffestiniog (not at Tanygrisiau as stated by J. Lloyd Williams), one of the five children of John Williams, Rhiwbryfdir (brother to Griffith Williams, 1824 - 1881), and his wife. After leaving school G. J. Williams worked as a quarryman in Chwarel Holland (part of the Oakeley quarry), Blaenau Ffestiniog. Afterwards he went to

WILLIAMS, GWILYM IEUAN

ordained in 1909, and became minister of Tabernacl, New Quay, Cardiganshire (1908-20). During this period he was also a chaplain in the army, serving in Egypt and Palestine. In 1920 he received a call to Tŵr-gwyn church,

, where he remained until 1966. In 1939 he married Phyllis Roberts of

. He died 1 February 1968. His ashes were transferred from Colwyn Bay Crematorium to the family grave in

, and he adds that he was there at the same time as Goronwy Owen. He entered Jesus College, Oxford, in June 1740, 'aged 18,' and graduated in 1744. He became curate of Llanengan (1745-51), rector of Llanfrothen and perpetual curate of Beddgelert (1751-4), and rector of Aberffraw from 15 February 1754 (when the Morrises had hoped to get the living for Goronwy Owen) until his death. Born at Bryn-crug, near Towyn, Merionethshire. He served his apprenticeship with Richard Jones, the Dolgelley printer. He became known as a writer of ability and a staunch advocate and defender of the Church, and in January 1848, he started to edit and print a Church paper called Y Cymro, published at first in
