HUW ap RHISIART ap DAFYDD
(fl. second half of 16th century) Cefn Llanfair, Llŷn, bard
HUW ap RHYS WYN
(fl. c. 1550), poet
Member of the landed family of Mysoglen, Llangeinwen, Anglesey; husband of Catherine, daughter of Lewys ab Owain
ap
Meurig of Y Frondeg, Llangaffo. Some of his poems survive in manuscripts, and these include a cywydd addressed to Thomas Glyn, Glynllifon, requesting a fishing boat from him, a cywydd to old age, and a more unusual kind of cywydd - an elegy on the death of his favourite hound
HUW ap RICHARD ap SION ap MADOG - see
HUW BODWRDA
HUW BODWRDA
(fl. 1566) Bodwrda,, gentleman, bard, and patron of bards
buried on Bardsey Island. He was the father of the John Wyn
ap
Hugh who was accused, by one Morgan ab Ieuan, of piracy in and around Bardsey (c. 1567).
HUW CAE LLWYD
(fl. 1431-1504), poet
elegies and from the date of the battle of Banbury, 1469; the poems fall between 1457 and 1504. Moreover, he went on a pilgrimage to Rome in 1475 and wrote a cywydd describing all that he had seen there. He sang the praises of Sir
Rhys
ap
Thomas. It seems probable that in his old age he returned to his native place in North Wales for there is a tradition that he was buried at Llanuwchllyn where, too
HUW CORNWY
(fl. 1580-1596), bard
possibly a native of Llanfair-yng-nghornwy, Anglesey. He wrote elegies upon members of the Anglesey families of Meyrick of Bodorgan and Rhydderch of Myfyrian, and on
Rhys
ap
Thomas. He also engaged in a bardic controversy with Rhydderch
ap
Rhisiart of Myfyrian.
HUW DAFI
(fl. 15th-16th century), bard
Various poems attributed to 'Huw Dafi,' 'Huw Dafi of Llŷn,' and 'Huw Dafi of Gwynedd,' are found in manuscripts. Nothing is known about the poet - or poets, and it is not clear whether any of these names refer to Huw
ap
Dafydd of whose poetry many examples are found.
HUW LLIFON
(fl. c. 1570-1607), poet and sexton
of Llanefydd, Denbighshire. Some of his work remains in manuscripts and this includes religious englynion, a cywydd to the Holly Tree at Meifod, another begging a gown for the poet from David Holland of Kinmel, and an elegy upon the death in 1607/8 of Ffowc
ap
Rhobert of Meiriadog, Denbighshire. It is evident that he lived to a fairly great age; references to this are found in the last two of

HUW LLŶN
(fl. c. 1552-1594), poet
A native of Llŷn, who graduated in the third bardic grade at the Caerwys eisteddfod of 1568 - Peniarth MS 132 (59). It appears that he may have been a brother of Wiliam Llŷn (NLW MS 1244D (28), NLW MS 1580B (308), Bulletin of the Board of Celtic Studies, ix, 112, etc.). According to Myrddin Fardd, J. E. Griffith, and J. C. Morrice, he was the squire Huw
ap
Rhisiart
ap
Dafydd of Cefn Llanfair, but
HUW MACHNO
(fl. 1585-1637), poet
Son of Owen
ap
Ieuan
ap
Siôn of Penmachno, Caernarfonshire, descended from Dafydd Goch of Penmachno, an illegitimate son of David, prince of Wales. His mother was Margaret, daughter of Robert
ap
Rhys
ap
Hywel. The date of his birth is not known, but he is said to have died in 1637, and a gravestone inscribed ' H.M. obiit 1637,' in Penmachno churchyard, is believed to be his. He appears to have
HUW PENNAL
(fl. 15th century), poet
a native, apparently, of Pennal in Merioneth. Some examples of his work remain in manuscript, including cywyddau to Wiliam Herbert, earl of Pembroke, Dafydd
ap
Rhys
of Llangurig, the three sons of Ieuan Blayney of Gregynog, and two love poems. No details regarding his life are to be found, but it is obvious that the dates given him in Blackwell, and W. Owen, Cambrian Biog. are too late.
