JONES, ALWYN RICE
(1934 - 2007), Archbishop of Wales
secretary for the Student Christian Movement and SCM in Schools. In 1965, his mentor, Bishop Gwilym Williams, appointed him director of education for the diocese of
Bangor
, as well as chaplain of St Winifred's School, Llanfairfechan. Williams also made Jones his youth chaplain, warden of ordinands, examining chaplain and honorary chaplain of
Bangor
Cathedral. In addition to these roles, Jones was an

, where he was ordained, January 1810. In 1815 he moved to London to take charge of the churches at Woolwich and Deptford, but in 1823 returned to

where he remained until 1854 when he retired and went to live at Chester. He died February 1860 and was buried in Bethlehem burial-ground, Tal-y-bont, near
Bangor
. He was a D.D. of Giessen University. From 1823 to 1854

He won the chair with his awdl ' Breuddwyd y Bardd ' at the
