The statement in Enwogion Cymru: a Biographical Dictionary of Eminent Welshmen that he hailed from Maenan, Caernarfonshire, suggests that he may be identified with Dafydd ab Owen, rector of Nannerch and Llanddoged, and vicar of Eglwysfach, 1537 (J.
