EVANS, JOHN (1858 - 1963), minister (Congl.) and professor at the Memorial College, Brecon Born 12 May 1858 at Erwan Fach, Llangrannog, Cardiganshire, son of David and Eleanor Evans. He had very little formal education in childhood though he did for a while attend the school held by ' Cranogwen ' at Pontgarreg. After the 1868 general election the family was ejected from their home because the father had voted for the Liberal candidate, and they moved to Pant-teg farm near New Quay
REES, ROBERT OLIVER (1819 - 1881), apothecary, publisher, and author Born at Dolgelley - his mother (Catherine Rees) was a descendant of the family of Owen of Pantphylip, Llangelynnin, Merioneth. He knew Evan Jones (Ieuan Gwynedd) and published a biography of that writer, 1876. He arranged for the publication of Cysondeb y Pedair Efengyl (E. Robinson), 1855, the works of David Richards (Dafydd Ionawr) and poems by Sarah Jane Rees (Cranogwen). A small book which he

There is a 'Cranogwen Scholarship' tenable at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, in commemoration of her. Editorial note 2020: Cranogwen lived for the last twenty years of her life with her partner, Jane Thomas, in Llangrannog.
