Dictionary of Welsh Biography

HUGHES, ROBERT GWILYM (1910 - 1997), poet and minister with the Welsh Calvinistic Methodist denomination loved music (he was a skilled pianist), and his daughter, Carys Hughes (1949-2004), who died prematurely, was a professional organist. Gwilym Hughes died 20 July 1997. After a service at Engedi chapel Caernarfon and he was laid to rest in the new Bangor City Cemetery. He left a wife and three sons and a daughter to mourn.
JOHN, GEORGE (1918 - 1994), minister (Bapt) and college principal were born to them: Delyth Margaret and Carys Elisabeth. In 1971 he was appointed professor of New Testament Studies in the Baptist College in Bangor, succeeding D. Eirwyn Morgan as head of the College in 1980. He was elected President of the Baptist Association in Caernarfonshire in 1982. In 1984, he retired to live in Llandysul, but continued to lecture for a time in the University College of Wales
JONES, EMYR WYN (1907 - 1999), cardiologist and author for due recognition of the Welsh language within the health service. In 1936 he married Enid Llywelyn Williams (1909-1967), daughter of Dr David Llewelyn Williams and sister to Alun Llywelyn-Williams. They had one daughter, Carys (b. 1937) and one son, Gareth Wyn (b. 1940). During the intense bombing of Liverpool in the Second World War, the family moved first to Enid's parents' house in Old Colwyn
