DAVIES, EVAN
(1842 - 1919), Calvinistic Methodist minister, and writer
Dyffryn Ceiriog, and thence in 1879 to Trefriw, where he remained till his death. Though he became (1914) moderator of the North Wales C.M. Association, he is best remembered as a most diligent writer and editor. For more than thirty years he was co-editor (with John Morgan Jones, 1838 - 1921) of Y Lladmerydd. He edited the works of Tafolog (
Richard

DAVIES, EVAN
(1694? - 1770), Independent minister and tutor
resigned, ostensibly because of ill health, but probably for other and more substantial reasons. He became pastor at Billericay, Essex, where he died, 16 October 1770, at the age of 76. Evan Davies seems to have been a moderate Calvinist, of a rather academic type.
Richard
Bennett (Blynyddoedd Cyntaf Methodistiaeth, 182) held, for unspecified reasons, that he was one of the Dissenting friends of
DAVIES, GWILYM PRYS

Richard
Crossman to discuss the implications of devolution, he played a key role in the

Richard
Jones 'of Ramoth '. The French landing near Fishguard (1797) brought him trouble. Despite the fact that the invaders raided his farm and menaced his person, he was charged with 'collaboration,' and though the charge was dropped, his effigy was burnt at Fishguard fair on 2 February 1798. He died 9 May 1825, and was buried in Hermon burial ground, Fishguard. His son, HENRY

son of

He became a figure in the public life of Anglesey (county councillor, J.P., D.L., sheriff) and also in the affairs of the University College at Bangor, of which he was vice-president

Davies lived for some time in
DAVIES, HUMFFREY
(fl. 1600?-64?), poet
Sometimes described as sexton and sometimes as parish clerk of Llanbrynmair, Montgomeryshire. It is sometimes said that William Phylip wrote his well-known 'Cywydd y Bedd' after visiting the grave of Wmffre Dafydd at Llanbrynmair; it is possible, however, that the Llanbrynmair bard survived the author of 'Cywydd y Bedd' (who died 1669).
Richard
Williams (Montgomeryshire worthies) quotes this
DAVIES, HUMPHREY

-y-glo chose a well-to-do local farmer,
Richard
Rees of Gwernllwyn Uchaf, as Davies's co-pastor (he died 1749). Relations between the two men and their followers became increasingly difficult, and the 'left wing' seceded in 1747 to form the congregation (now Unitarian) of Cefn-coed-cymer. Owing to the expiry of the lease, Davies and his people left their historic meeting-house at Cwm-y-glo and
