Born at Nant, Coed-poeth, Denbighshire, 18 December 1871, the son of David and Hannah Morris. He left school early and went to work in a coalmine. ) and at Pontypool, and was ordained at Treorchy. He was secretary of the Welsh Baptist Union, 1879-98, and afterwards became its president. He was a promoter of cultural, temperance, and educational movements in the Rhondda
