EDWARDS, ALFRED GEORGE
(1848 - 1937), first archbishop of Wales
, 1927, which give an interesting picture of Welsh rural life in the 19th century, and received the honorary degrees of LL.D. (Wales), D.C.L. (Oxon.), and LL.D. (Cantab.), besides being made an honorary Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford, in 1920. He married, first, in 1875, Caroline (died 1884), daughter of Edward Edwards, Llangollen, by whom he had two sons and three daughters; second, in 1886,

he was no longer 'a force in the land.' Huw T felt obliged to resign from Flintshire County Council and lost contact with influential members of the Labour movement. His rebellion had little effect on Labour's dominance of Welsh politics, and he did not become a prominent figure in Plaid Cymru

son of John Edwards and his wife Elinora (?). He was christened in 1692 in the parish church of Manafon, Montgomeryshire, and there in 1730 he married Catherine, daughter of Evan Evans, Cwm-yr-annel, Carno. He was parish clerk of Manafon for fifty years. He wrote englynion and carols, some of his work being published in Evan

the University of Wales. He died (still in harness) at Llanuwchllyn, 15 May 1920. His wife, Ellen
Davies
of Prys Mawr, Llanuwchllyn, had died a year before him. They had two sons, Owen ab Owen (1892-1897) and Ifan ab Owen Edwards (1895-1970), and one daughter, Haf (1898-1965) who married David Hughes Parry.
