Born 21 June 1877, in Moylon, Rhydlewis, Cardiganshire, the youngest of the 13 children of John Owen (a carrier who took farm produce by horse and cart to the industrial centres of south Wales before taking the tenancy of the farm, Moylon) and

, daughter of Abraham Jones (who was also a carrier). One of the children died young while the parents were in the cemetery at the burial of two others

Born at Llanddoget, Denbighshire, 26 August 1793. He began to preach when he was 18 years old, and became missionary to Llŷn and Eifionydd in 1815. He was ordained at Garn Dolbenmaen, 25 November 1817, and moved in 1820 to Llangollen, in 1822 to Dolgelley, and in September 1823 to Castleton, Monmouth, where he remained until his death on 1 December 1855.
