DAVIES, ALUN
(1916 - 1980), historian
Hywel Davies. Elwyn and Nan were born at Plasmarl, Swansea, but Alun was born after the
family
had moved first o Pontardulais and thence to Llandysul. Two other sons died in babyhood and they were buried in the
family
plot at Bwlchnewydd, Carmarthenshire. Sarah Davies survived until 1965, outliving her son Hywel. Another grave was opened at Bwlchnewydd for Nan and for Alun's ashes. Alun Davies

Born 16 June 1910, in Llwyngwinau House, Tregaron, third of the six children of David and Elizabeth Davies. The
family
kept a butcher's shop in Tregaron at the time, but when she was about a year old they moved to farm Cefngwyddil in the parish of Llanbadarn Odwyn, and in 1919 to farm Pontargamddwr in the parish of Caron-is-clawdd. She was educated at Castell Fflemish elementary school from 1915

Born 6 January 1858 at Pontardawe, Glamorgan - the

moved later to Cwmbwrla near Swansea - son of John and Hannah Davies. He won his first prize as a singer at the age of five. He sang alto in ' Côr Caradog ' and won several prizes in eisteddfodau. took up a post as law lecturer in Aberystwyth in 1908-09 before he was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn. Davies joined the North Wales circuit in 1909 and transferred, within a year, to the Northern circuit. He was a successful lawyer and published, under the influence of his

Dafydd G. Davies was born on 1 July 1922 at Prysgol, Four Crosses, Pwllheli, the only child of John Clement Davies (1896-1982), a Baptist minister, and his wife Gwen Ellen (née Griffith, 1894-1970), a Welsh teacher. The

moved in 1922 when his father became minister of Graig Baptist Church in Newcastle Emlyn, and Dafydd was brought up there. He was educated at Adpar Primary School
DAVIES, Sir DANIEL THOMAS
