DAVIES, JOHN (Taliesin Hiraethog; 1841 - 1894), farmer and poet verse and was also rewarded for a novel, ' Y Sesiwn yng Nghymru ' (on the Great Sessions of Wales). His free verse is rather better than his work in the strict metres. His best poems are, perhaps, ' Pryddest Llywarch Hen ' and ' Rhieingerdd Elwy ac Alwen.' He wrote a great deal for the Voelas family (see Wynne of Voelas) and was, at one time, regarded as their household bard.
GRIFFITH family Cefn Amwlch, Penllech, Llŷn Voelas, the celebrated ' Madam Griffith,' whose name occurs in connection with Howel Harris. Their son, JOHN GRIFFITH VI, who inherited the estate on his father's death in 1752, was the last of that name, and the last, also, of the Griffith line. As a young lieutenant he fought in the battle of Minden (1759), and died, unmarried, in December 1794, leaving the Cefn Amwlch estate to his cousin JANE WYNNE
GRIFFITH, SIDNEY (d. 1752), Methodist and associate of Howel Harris Daughter of Cadwaladr Wynne of Voelas, Ysbyty Ifan (see J. E. Griffith, Pedigrees, 326; her christian name came from her grandmother Sidney Thelwall of Plas-y-ward, Ruthin); married William Griffith of Cefn Amwlch, c. 1741 (her son was born in 1742). WYNN family Maesyneuadd, Llandecwyn , daughter of Maurice Gethin, Voelas, Denbighshire. The heir of Dafydd and Lowry was HUMPHREY AP DAFYDD, who was, it may be noted incidentally, the uncle of Humphrey Davies, vicar of Darowen. WYNNE family Voelas, , by a deed of partition 8 February 1546, executed by him and his brother, Robert Wynne (in whose memory and that of his wife - they died in 1598 - there is a brass in Ysbyty Ifan church), obtained Voelas Robert receiving Cernioge as a royal grant. WYNNE, JOHN (1650 - 1714), industrial pioneer this article entered Jesus College, Oxford, in 1668, 'aged 18,' and joined Gray's Inn in 1669. He married (1673) Jane, daughter of Robert Wynne of Voelas. But the truth is that we know very little about his career, except that he, too, was sheriff of Flintshire in 1695.
