RHYS-WILLIAMS, BRANDON MEREDITH (1927 - 1988), Conservative politician candidate for Pontypridd in the general election of 1959 and in the Ebbw Vale by-election of 1960 held on the death of Aneurin Bevan when he was predictably defeated by Michael Foot (Labour). He again contested the same division in the general election of October 1964. RICHARD, EDWARD (1714 - 1777), schoolmaster, scholar, and poet attributed one of Edward Richard's englynion to Dafydd Ionawr. Edward Richard is the author of the englyn which Saunders Lewis has printed in his book, A School of Welsh Augustans, and NLW MS 5487B, 'Diaries of the Rev. RICHARD, THOMAS (1783 - 1856), Calvinistic Methodist minister Gwyn of Maenorowen, niece of David Jones of Llan-gan's second wife. After his marriage he farmed in several places, but c. 1824-5 settled at Fishguard where he spent the rest of his life. He died 3 January 1856 and was buried at Maenorowen. ROBERT VAUGHAN, of Caerynwch, third in descent from Tudor Vychan, was buried at Dolgelley on 30 July 1693. His wife, Margaret, was one of the daughters of Robert Vaughan of Hengwrt, the antiquary. RICHARDS, DAVID (Dafydd Ionawr; 1751 - 1827), schoolmaster and poet ). In 1794 he moved to Dolgelley. On the death of his father (1798) he inherited the property of both his parents, which he transferred to a friend, Thomas Jones, on condition that he might spend the rest of his life as one of his family. RICHARDS, DAVID MORGAN (1853 - 1913), journalist and eisteddfodwr to the town, and especially to its Welsh cultural movements; he published an annual almanac which contained much information on the history of Aberdare. But he is best remembered for his Rhestr Eisteddfodau, a list of eisteddfodau down to 1901, which was published posthumously in 1914, with a biographical introduction by J. Morgan Jones, on which the present note is based. The book is very useful

It was all too much for David Richards and he took his own life at his home 24 April 1949. In this tragic way the life of this genius came to an end. Dr R.
