Born in Amlwch, Anglesey, the son of a prosperous farmer. He received a good education locally and he also went to a school in Liverpool. He became a member of Tabernacl chapel, Liverpool under the ministry of John Breese and he started to preach there. He was a student at the Presbyterian College, Carmarthen, 1824-28 and he was ordained minister of Mill Street Chapel, Newport, 1 January 1829=. Ten years later he was inducted as minister at Trelech, Carmarthenshire on 11-13 June, 1839. He published a useful catechism for Sunday schools and he worked diligently for years on a general dictionary but this was not finished. He died 20 February, 1849.
